Have you ever desperately wanted to quit your job and start a new career or a business doing something you love; but then the cold, soul crushing, overwhelming, sense of fear kicks in and stops you in your tracks?
Maybe you’ve reached the point of being sick and tired of being sick and tired and are ready to quit; or maybe you’re just thinking about it, thinking about the possibilities of venturing into something new. Maybe you feel it’s time for that promotion at work; or the time to get into a different role.
Whatever it is; you feel paralysed by a gut-wrenching fear and your mind is screaming at you to leave things as they are, to stop trying to change the status quo.
Does this feel like you? Well, good news, you’re not alone! Rather, you’re going through something very common.
Fear is just a biological response that tells you when things are changing so you stay alert and react. Fear in itself is not a bad thing!!!
Fear can either be limiting or empowering. The challenge is how we deal with fear when it shows up.
Here is one way: begin to think of it as an indicator of growth, an indicator of discomfort in what was once your comfort zone and an indicator that you’re about to do something amazing.
With the simple re-frame you’d probably follow through more on things that scare you the most because you know that getting through to the other side would be worth it. Maybe you’d finally make the first move to go for the promotion, quit your job, change careers or start the dream business.
You would take action; no matter how scary it appears to be.
You would JUST DO IT!
Whenever I feel afraid, I acknowledge the fear, and recognize that it’s giving me a choice: To either stay stuck and make no progress—or push through it and get to the other side.
Yes, it’s scary, but it’s also thrilling and exciting knowing that ALL the amazing stuff is on the other side of fear.
Feel the fear and do it anyway!
